Firm Foundation reduces physical vulnerability and enables grass-roots development of riverfront communities in Banjarmasin with a system of urban water infrastructure. The project will engage communities towards stewardship of their neighborhoods and waterways with a participatory design process.
Communities in Banjarmasin battle with flooding, polluted waters, and rising tides, especially in dense informal settlements on the riverfront. The funding will buy materials to support a campaign and workshops to increase awareness of water issues and a construction process to create the infrastructure. We will work with waterfront communities to design and build low-cost urban water infrastructure. These improvements will reduce water-related vulnerability and create positive impacts on the river ecology, improve the public realm, and reposition the river as a local asset.
Solo Kota Kita is a non-profit organization that creates development and design projects. Our approach is highly inclusive of the communities where we work.
